This board was set up for students of the CAVIE seminar taught by Dr. Athanassakos in the summer of 2008 to keep in touch after the week-long seminar ended. Attendance at that seminar is not mandatory to participate here, all value-minded investors are welcome.

Mark,

Thanks for setting up the board. I will check it from time to time. George suggested Harley-Davidson and Sanderson Farms as companies to study. I think that they have cases written and available through the Ivey publishing website. I'll check Edwards life Sciences is a big holdilng in the Mackenzie Mutual Funds Universal funds and it may be worth looking at becuase it is reputed to be a strong franchise firm (pacemakers).

Mark,

Its a new board but shows promise I think.

I am trying to put the course into a comprehensive series of spreadsheets.  To anyone looking for another good board, the MSN Board that Mark posted is great, I check it at least once a day to see what has been posted.  I will obviously be checking this board regularly as well.

Hopefully I can contribute more to this one than I do to the MSN board.

Cheers

Thanks, Mark, for setting up this forum.  I look forward to keeping in touch with our classmates as we all work through real case studies.  United Health (UNH) is my first, as it represents a meaningful holding in my portfolio, and is currently sucking gas.  Morningstar is using a slightly different Kd, Ks, and EPV than what I calculated, and as a result winds up with a higher Intrinsic Value than what I came up with.  Given the stock's performance this week, the market seems to be saying the company will never be a viable player in health care services again.  That seems a bit overstated to me.  Anybody have any thoughts?

Cheers.
